On the occasion of the 60th edition of the Salone di Milano, LIFE is the site-specific installation created with iGuzzini Illuminazione to be placed in front of the portal of the Aula Magna of the University of Milan. The work takes the form of a luminous canopy on which the word LIFE, a hymn to life and rebirth, is written in large letters. With a system of dimmable lights, LIFE represents an opening towards a possible ‘illumination’: a spatial propeller of continuous and vital changes. The installation is made up of a metal and transparent polycarbonate structure containing 650 Dali dimmable LED bulbs and 160 linear metres of low-voltage LED neon tubes, also Dali dimmable. The average energy consumption is only 2.5 Kw/h per day. LIFE is the entrance to a place of light, a threshold, an invitation to participate in a continuous show animated by moving lights. It wants to be a stage for continuous rebirth, a space to be crossed that can generate and re-generate a constant cycle called life.
“It wasn’t quite dark yet, the rain had stopped, it was almost morning, and the illuminated signs continued to speak; a theatre said ‘LIFE’ as a crackle of drops ran out, one mechanism stopped and another was about to start again. A new day, a new beginning.”
