Scandurra Studio Wins Twice at the Iconic Awards 2024 Innovative Architecture
“Design and architecture today face increasingly complex and multifaceted challenges, marked by a growing divide between the aspiration for innovation and the reassuring pull of tradition. This recognition reaffirms that Italian design culture, evident both in its form and method, offers a broader and deeper perspective for interpreting complexity and finding a balance between the past
and the future.”
Alessandro Scandurra
At the 2024 Iconic Awards Innovative Architecture ceremony, Scandurra Studio was honored with two prestigious awards. The firm was recognized as Best of the Best for Spiga26, a commercial complex developed for Hines Italy, and as Winner for Roma, an eclectic lighting design created for Panzeri.
The event, hosted by the German Design Council in Munich, brought together leading figures from the worlds of design and architecture. Spiga26, awarded Best of the Best, is the redevelopment of a prominent commercial and office complex destined to house the Kering headquarters in the heart of Milan’s renowned Quadrilatero della Moda district. The project honors and updates the historical legacy of the iconic Palazzo Pertusati, which was destroyed during World War II. Innovative and efficient solutions implemented in the design ensure outstanding energy performance, confirmed by the LEED Gold Core & Shell environmental certification. These features seamlessly blend with the architectural context of the Quadrilatero, enhancing the comfort and environmental quality of the complex.
Roma, awarded Winner, features a delicate groove that evokes the timeless beauty of the Doric column, capturing and diffusing light in a way that both highlights historical settings and adds elegance and refinement to minimalist, contemporary environments. The grooved surface reflects both natural and artificial light, blurring the line between day and night and redefining the concept of time from antiquity to the present moment.
Both award-winning projects resonate with Scandurra Studio’s vision, a dynamic, international firm that has always placed interdisciplinary approaches at the core of its architectural, urban, and product design practice. This approach resonates with Alessandro Scandurra’s perspective on architecture as a place of convergence between research and experimentation, leveraging on his experience as academic and designer.
